How Many Perfumes Is Too Many?
Share
Some people wear one perfume for years. Others have a shelf full of bottles they barely touch. So how many is the right number?
The short answer
For an average, normal person, 3 to 4 perfumes is plenty. That’s enough to cover your everyday life without wasting money or letting bottles go stale.
A simple collection that works
- Daily scent: Light and easy, for work, class, or errands.
- Evening or date scent: Warmer and more noticeable, for dinners and nights out.
- Summer scent: Fresh and clean, for hot days.
- Winter scent: Rich and deep, for cold weather.
You can also swap one of these for a signature scent you wear almost everywhere. Many people find that’s all they need.
So when is it too much?
There’s no strict number, but it’s probably too many when:
- You can’t remember the last time you wore half of them
- Bottles expire before you finish them (most perfumes last about 3 to 5 years)
- You keep buying out of habit, not because you want to wear them
What about collectors?
If you love fragrance as a hobby, a bigger collection is perfectly fine. Enjoying perfume is not the problem. But for everyday wearers, more bottles doesn’t mean more compliments.
The bottom line
Quality over quantity. A few perfumes you truly love and wear often will serve you better than a shelf full of bottles you ignore. Start with 3 or 4, and only add a new one when it fills a gap.
